The Santa Clara County Founding Chapter is like the “Phoenix” and has again risen and started awarding scholarships to students entering higher education.
In 2019, the Chapter partnered with the Evergreen Community College “Enlace Program” and awarded five $1,000 scholarships to the following students:
Karen Johana Aguilar, Sacramento State University – Criminal Justice
Nina Rose Capurso, U C Berkeley – Sociology & Chicanex Studies
Jessica Maricruz Chavez-Ornelas, Cal State Monterey Bay – Psychology
John Omar Gonzalez, San Jose State University, Justice Studies – Criminology
Albert Rodriguez, San Jose State University – Criminal Justice
In memory of a past NLPOA member, Sgt. Rose Mitre with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, the Chapter partnered with her family. The Mitre family awarded Jessica Chavez-Ornelas a $1,000 scholarship through their “Rose Mitre Memorial Scholarship” Fund.
The Chapter continues to financially build their scholarship program in order to provide to Latino students residing throughout Santa Clara County scholarships and other means of support to students pursuing careers in law enforcement or in non-law enforcement fields.
The next deadline for submittal of scholarship applications is momentarily pending.
